Omega Energia to Invest USD161m in New Wind Farm

June 30 2015

Brazilian renewable energy company Omega Energia said on Tuesday it is going to invest around BRL 500 million (USD 161.1m/EUR 143m) in new wind power capacity in Piaui state.

To start the construction of the plant, planned for the city of Parnaiba, the company is waiting for a permit from the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio). Representatives of Omega Energia have requested support from the government at a meeting with the State Secretary Merlong Solano on Tuesday.

The company already has two farms in the same region — the Delta 1 and 2 plants with a combined capacity of 144.8 MW. The produced power is distributed to Eletrobras and used in the municipalities of Parnaiba, Piripiri and Teresina in the northern region.

Omega Energia is also installing three parks in Pedra do Sal region.
