Airport Presidente Castro Pinto records growing number of passengers for second consecutive year

Despite the economic crisis which has reduced air travel across Brazil, Joao Pessoa’s International Airport Presidente Castro Pinto recorded an increase in the number of shipments and passenger landings in February this year compared to the same period last year. This year 115,023 passengers passed through the airport gates against 114,757 in February 2015.

The data was released earlier this month by the Superintendency of Infraero (Brazilian Airport Infrastructure Company) with information passed on by airlines operating in Castro Pinto (TAM, Gol, Avianca and Blue). The number of passengers boarding also showed an increase of 3.94% in January 2016.

In relation to the movement of cargo, Infraero registered a growth of 37.79% in February compared to the same month last year. In January this year it had already been increased showing a growth of 16.03%.

In evaluating, the president of the Tourism Company Paraibana (PBTur), Ruth Avelino stated that figures released by Infraero reflect the current situation of the Brazilian economy and the region. “Trade is continuing to grow within the range of Paraiba Destinations through training in general and training of nationwide travel agents. We all know that at this moment the market is difficult, so to maintain the growth in this sector can only be achieved with continued hard work.”
