SKF to capitalise on fast growing wind energy markets in Brazil

Swedens leading global supplier, SKF has announced that it will be investing US$ 31 million into a new 6,600 m2 factory in Cajamar, Brazil and will responsible for the production of Kaydon slewing ring bearings for wind turbine manufacturers across the country.

Wind energy is now the fastest growing source of power generation in Brazil. The total volume of wind energy contracted in 2013 will contribute to the generation of more than 70,000 jobs, R$ 21.2 billion in investments, 8,5 million houses supplied with electricity and 4 million tons of CO2 avoided, according to ABEEólica, The Brazilian Association of Wind Energy. As the world’s fastest growing wind energy market, Brazil is predicted to achieve an annual installation growth of between 2,000mw to 3,000mw per year.

Tom Johnstone, SKF President and CEO says, “Kaydon’s market leading position within renewable energy in North America, combined with SKF’s global footprint and the investment in Brazil, creates one of the strongest portfolios and service offerings available today” adding, “this is also a great example of how we are broadening our SKF BeyondZero portfolio on a global scale, by offering renewable energy customers a wider assortment of products that help deliver improved environmental performance.”

SKF is a leading global supplier of bearings, seals, mechatronics, lubrication systems, and services which include technical support, maintenance and reliability services, engineering consulting and training. SKF is represented in more than 130 countries and has around 15,000 distributor locations worldwide.

The factory production is scheduled to commence late 2015 and on completion will employ up to 150 people.
