The creative directors of Rio 2016 Olympic Games are due to present their plans for the events opening and closing ceremony to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at the end of this month.
The creation process began in April 2013 and was finalised in December last year.
With the approval of the draft follows the pre-production process run by a trio of creative Directors Andrucha Waddington, Daniela Thimas and Fernando Meirelles, each chosen for their ability to work with large budgets and fully understand and deliver the task at hand.
The instructions for the draft was to recreate and develop the whole history of the Olympic Games through its ceremonies, sharing themes and actions. The team were also in charge of managing the parade of the athletes, the entry of the flag and the oath.
‘The role of a creative Director can be compared to a Novelist or a General Director,’ says the Director of Ceremonies of the Rio 2016 committee, Leonardo Caetano. He then explained how other professionals will join in the process but will only control a specific scene or passage from the show.
The Paralympic ceremonies are also awaiting approval, prepared by another trio of Creative Directors. In total, 70 professionals have been employed to create Rio 2016’s highly anticipated Olympic Games Ceremonies.
